David Harer, age 65, of Grantsburg, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014. He was born in New Richmond, WI, on August 21, 1948, a son of the late Marshall E. and Rosetta A. (Wilbur) Harer. On March 13, 1981, David married Louise M. Evans in Balsam Lake, WI. David honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from July 22, 1968 to April 22, 1970. Sgt Harer was assigned primarily to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment. He received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received during combat operations, and later became a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He also was awarded the Parachute Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. David is survived by his wife, Louise; children: Jennifer (John) Phillips and Melissa Zaborowski; and David, Bethany, and Rebecca Harer; grandchildren that includes Rhiannan Schafer, Riley Schafer, Ivy Zaborowski, and Thadeus Zaborowski; siblings: Barbara Rogers, Gerald (Betty) Harer, Linda (Bob) Pettit, Bradley (Debbie) Harer, Richard Harer, and Candus Harer; mother-in-law, Arlene Evans; brother-in-law, Archie Evans, Jr.; and his best friend, Jim Schafer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall E. and Rosetta Harer; brothers: Marshall H. Harer and Walter Harer; father-in-law, Archie Evans, Sr.; and brother-in-law, Lester Rogers. The Memorial Service for David Harer will be conducted on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. (visitation 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.) at Grace Baptist Church, Grantsburg, WI, with Pastor Brad Moore officiating.
