Charles Hahr

Charles J. Hahr, Sr., “Chuck,” , age 77, of Siren, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 14, 2015. Chuck was born on February 9, 1938, to John and Gladys (McCimmon) Hahr in Aurora, Illinois. Chuck grew up in northeast Illinois and attended elementary school in Bristol, and then attended and graduated from Yorkville High School in 1956. On June 29, 1957, Chuck was united in marriage to his Prom date, best friend and sweetheart, Hazel Mitchell. Shortly after their union, Chuck was drafted into the United States Army and served his term in South Korea as a radio operator. Upon his return home, Chuck worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Montgomery for 10 years. He then began his own company, C & D Construction. In 1964, Chuck and Hazel bought the Buzz-Inn Resort on Mudhen Lake in Siren, which eventually became their full time residence. By 1976, Chuck had launched another company, Burnett County Roofing. In 1982, he began his career in Real Estate; and in 1998, he purchased the Johnson Real Estate Office in Siren, which he operated until his retirement. Chuck was very active in his community throughout his life. He was a long-time member of the Siren Lions Club, Fishbowl United Sportsman’s Club & Trap Range, Siren American Legion Lund Brown Post #132, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1194, and the Siren United Methodist Church Men’s Group. In life, Chuck enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and golf. He was a member of several leagues, including horseshoes and pool. Chuck loved all sports, but had a special affinity for baseball, which he played and coached for years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved very much and was extremely proud. Chuck is preceded in death by his father, John Hahr; his mother, Gladys (Hahr) Lee; stepfather, Kenny Lee; infant son, Michael; sister, Kathy Carlson; twin grandsons, Nicholas and Henry; mother-in-law, Helen Voga; and brother-in-law, Kevin Warren. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Hazel Hahr; children: Joan Hahr, Charles (Laura) Hahr Jr., and Linda (David) Ritchey; grandchildren: Timothy (Tarrah) Java, Jordan Java, Alaina Java, Ethan Java, Kaylin Ritchey, Jacob Hahr, Reed Ritchey, Katya Hahr, and Cameryn Ritchey great-granddaughter, Lucie Java; and baby great-grandson on the way. Also surviving are sisters: Barbara (Rich) Smith, Hattie Sue Warren, Sally Podgsweit; brothers: Dennis Hahr, Jack Hahr and Donald Hahr; as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a large community of friends. The Memorial Service honoring the life of Chuck Hahr, Sr. will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at the Siren United Methodist Church with Pastor Eddie Crise officiating. Visitation will be beforehand from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A light luncheon will follow. Pallbearers are Dennis Hahr, Jack Hahr, Donald Hahr, Tom Danielak, Charles Hahr Jr., and John Hahr. Honorary pallbearers are Timothy Java, Jordan Java, Ethan Java, Jacob Hahr, Lance Hahr, and David Ritchey. Arrangements have been entrusted with Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Homes and Cremation Services of Grantsburg, Siren, & Webster, Wisconsin. Online condolences may be expressed at www.swedberg-taylor.com In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial donations may be made on behalf of Chuck for the Siren Ball Park.
