Carol Jean Boettcher was born November 18, 1965 in Gaylord, MN to Albert and Carlene (Krebs) Boettcher. She was baptized and confirmed at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Isle, MN.
Carol attended grade school in Green Isle and high school in Arlington, MN, graduating in 1984.
While a divorced, single mom caring for her 3 children, Carol attended Wilmar Community College and St. Cloud State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreational Therapy in 1994 at the age of 29 years.
Carol began her recreational therapy career working for the State of MN. First at Moose Lake and then Cambridge. Carol worked tirelessly, successfully testifying at the state capitol to improve working conditions at the Cambridge Facility.
It was while working in Cambridge in 2003, that she met another Cambridge employee, Mike Downing. They fell in love and were married in Red Wing, MN on September 7, 2005. They made their home in Grantsburg and together were blessed to bring 2 beautiful, twin girls, Erin and Augusta into this world on December 3, 2007.
Carol was an avid volunteer at the food shelf in Webster and bread distribution at the Falun Trinity Lutheran Church. Carol was active with the Bethany Family and a help to all who knew her.
Carol is survived by her two sons, Jamie and Ryan; daughter Carisa; granddaughters, Aryanna and Frankie; grandson, Ryan. In addition, Carol is also survived by her loving husband Mike, their daughters, Erin and Augusta; parents Albert and Carlene Boettcher; brother, Dave (Teresa) Boettcher; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Jim) Downing-Irber, Rosemary (Greg) Downing-Pick; brother-in-law John Downing; and many nieces and nephews.
Carol is preceded in death by her grandparents Charlie and Alberta Krebs, Bill and Leona Boettcher; parents-in-law Jack and Peggy Downing.
A Celebration of life was held on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Bethany Lutheran Church in Grantsburg, WI withPpastor Jay Ticknor officiating the service. Interment was held at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
