Burdell John Hodges, age 77, of Webster, passed away on February 18, 2016. Burdell was born on January 15, 1939 in Burlington, Iowa to parents Ivan and Christine (Miller) Hodges. In 1955, at the age of 17, he joined the United States Army. Upon enlisting, Burdell was first stationed in Germany. It was there he met and married Renate Beifuss on June 2, 1959 in Berlin. After a few years, the family relocated to Georgia where Burdell had also been stationed. After his honorable discharge, the family returned to Hugo, MN and then later to Wyoming, MN. It was here that Burdell began his career as an Iron Worker in the early 70’s. He was employed for five years until an on the job injury kept him from working. In 1975, Burdell and Renate separated and after a few years, Burdell moved to the Webster area to enjoy the “outdoor lifestyle.” Burdell enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching his youngest daughter and granddaughter barrel race at horse shows. He liked to visit and socialize with his family and friends. He also took great pride in his craftsman skills and never hesitated to help those in need. He will be greatly missed. Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Orville Hodges, Francis Hodges and Charles Hodges; and uncle, Wally (Jo) Miller. Burdell is survived by his children, Jodell Hodges, Daniel Hodges, Jeff Hodges and Michelle (Kent) Steele; grandchildren, Ariel, Katrina and Serena; and former wife, Renate. Full Military Honors will be held at 1:30PM on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner. A family and friends “gathering” is currently being planned.
