Bonnie entered the courts of heaven on October 29, 2020 after a six-year battle with ALS. Bonnie was born on July 15, 1966 in Detroit Michigan to John and Peggy (Harwell) McKeown. Bonnie was born again by water and the Word on August 7, 1966. The baptism was at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Roseville, Michigan, performed by Pastor Forrest Friese. She attended Bethlehem Lutheran School and also took voice and dance lessons during her elementary school years. Bonnie was confirmed in the faith in the final confirmation class of Pastor Forrest Friese on March 30, 1980, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Her confirmation verse was Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” She attended Lutheran High School East in Harper Woods, Michigan, where she graduated co-valedictorian in 1984. Bonnie attended Wayne State University and Concordia College, Ann Arbor, Michigan graduating with an A.A. in 1987. While at Concordia, Bonnie met Jody Walter. They married on June 20, 1987 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pastor Forrest Friese presiding.
Bonnie worked at K-Mart headquarters in Troy, Michigan, various credit unions and banks, Wal-Mart and finally for Wayne’s Food Plus. In the years of her marriage she lived in Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
Bonnie was gifted vocalist and loved to use her voice to introduce new hymns to the congregation’s server by her husband – a pastor in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. She was treasurer for a convention of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was also the treasurer for several years for Lutherans for Life of Wisconsin. Her and her husband were active in the pro-life movement and in Republican politics. Bonnie was also a member of TOPS.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents.
Bonnie is survived by her sister; Melody (Ralph) D’Santis, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
The family asks that Memorials be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Webster and the ALS Foundation. A public service will be held at a later date due to the current state of affairs.
