Betty Hanson

Betty D. Hanson, age 87, a resident of Grantsburg, WI passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the Burnett Continuing Care Center.

Betty was born January 18, 1934 to Palmer & Elsie Lockert. The youngest of 5 children, Betty attended elementary school at Branstad & went to High School in Grantsburg, graduating in 1952. Betty dated Rodney all through high school and they got married at the English Lutheran Church of Grantsburg on October 8, 1955. They first lived in Tacoma, Washington where Rodney was stationed for his last 6 months in the Army. After the service Rod & Betty resided in Columbia Heights MN, Betty gave birth to Michael & David at the Swedish Hospital in Hennepin County, MPLS. Later they moved to Grantsburg where two more sons were added to the family Jimmy & Paul. Betty & Rodney had a very busy life raising their 4 sons. Betty worked at the Grantsburg Elementary School as a teachers aid for twenty plus years, enjoying her time with the teachers and watching over the kids on the playground.

They enjoyed many sporting events that boys participated in along with community activities and church. They built their home on St. George Avenue in 1961 and their hunting camp in 1989 South West of Grantsburg which has been a special place for Betty along with the entire family, it was built on the North 40 Pasture, previously owned by Palmer & Elsie Lockert.

They enjoyed traveling with Rods truck & 5th wheel for 17 years during the winter months. Betty loved family, friends, church, & The Packers. Spending time with the grand kids, sporting events, birthday parties, the lasting friendships made while traveling, all board and card games, golfing with Rodney and the Ladies in Grantsburg. She never missed a game of her boys in HS and traveling to watch all Dave & Paul’s UWRF Football Games, they later enjoyed traveling to watch their grand kids play sports, attended birthday parties & holidays with families.

A few years after Rodney’s Death in 2013 she sold the home on St George Ave & resided at Guardian Angels assisted living in Elk River. Located very close to Jim, Dave, Paul & families. She was later moved to CCC Burnett General Hospital where she received excellent, loving care by all the staff until her final days.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Hanson; parents, Palmer & Elsie Lockert; son, Paul Hanson; sisters, Muriel Logeland, Mercedes Ormston, Mavis Mettling; brother, Bud Lockert.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Laurie) Hanson, David (Jenny) Hanson, James (Renee) Hanson, (Kelli) Hanson- wife of Paul; grandchildren, Caleb (Tracey) Hanson, Kesia (Adam) Poslusny, Jeremy (Becka) Hanson, Joshua Hanson, Tommy Hanson, Anna Hanson, Nicole (Mitchell) Wachtel, Erika Hanson, Jake (Victoria) Hanson; great grandchildren, Summer Poslusny, Johnny Poslusny, Ryann Hanson, Penelope Hanson, Harlan Hanson, Harper Wachtel, Jack Wachtel; along with many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM (visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 AM) at the New Hope Lutheran Church, Grantsburg, WI with Pastor Emory Johnson officiating.
