Ann Gustafson Gervais McGinn was born in Frederic, Wisconsin on July 22, 1935, the second child and only daughter of Rudy and Vivian (Peterson) Gustafson. She went home to heaven on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Ramsey County Care Center in St. Paul, Minnesota four years after suffering a debilitating stroke.
Adventurous and independent, Ann grew up on the family farm near Frederic and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Bone Lake. Soon after graduating from Frederic High School in 1953 Ann left Frederic eager for the excitement of living in the Twin Cities. She quickly found employment doing office work which ultimately led to her thirty-year career handling freight claims for the BNSF Railroad from which she retired in 1998.
It was also in the cities that Ann met both of her husbands. She married first husband Lloyd Gervais in March 1963. Son, Lloyd Joseph (Joe), Ann's only child, was born in November,1964, and the couple settled in White Bear Lake, MN. Widowed in 1975, Ann spent many years as a working single mother until she met and married second husband Keith (Bill) McGinn in 1985. The couple also resided in White Bear Lake but enjoyed spending their weekends camping beside the Yellow River on land they purchased near Webster, WI. Sadly, Bill died of cancer in 1991 and Ann was widowed a second time. When her son, Joe, developed Huntington's Disease Ann devoted herself to his care. During those years’ coffee and lunches with longtime friends, visits with family, drives through the countryside and thrift store "treasure hunts" continued to be favorite pleasures.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Rudy and Vivian; husband, Lloyd Gervais; husband, Bill McGinn; son, Joe; and infant brother, David. She will be sadly missed by her grandson, Nicholas Severson; two grandchildren, Nolan and Genevieve; brother, Carl (Joyce) Gustafson; brother, John (Jan) Gustafson; her large extended family and many friends.
Ann was a private person who easily shared her smiles but kept her worries to herself. Her life will be celebrated with a private family Memorial Service held on November 3, 2018. According to her wishes, Ann will be buried next to her son, Joe, and husband, Bill, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
