Adeline Lela Johnson , age 93, of Grantsburg, WI, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015. Adeline was born in Blinsmon Twp, Moody Co., South Dakota on March 27, 1921, a daughter of the late Henry O. and Teolina I. (Pederson) Solsaa. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethania Lutheran Church, Blinsmon Twp. She attended the township school, and was a 1939 graduate of Jasper High School. On February 15, 1941, Adeline married Arthur G. Johnson, in Pipestone, MN. During the early years of their marriage, they operated a farm near Woodstock, Pipestone County, MN. They moved to the Grantsburg area in 1949 and operated a farm, tending dairy cattle and pigs, and later they raised just sheep. Adeline also worked at Rainbow Restaurant as a waitress, while Arthur worked at Armours. She was a hard worker and made sure everyone in the family pitched in to get the work done. She became a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Grantsburg, on January 24, 1951, and was very active at the church. Adeline was a Sunday School teacher for many years, and also served as the Sunday School Superintendent. She loved singing in the choir, and she was also active in the ladies society that later became known as Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA). Adeline loved being outdoors, caring for animals, and gardening. Embroidery and sewing were pastimes as needed. Adeline was a very caring person and sacrificed much to meet the needs of the family. She was a quiet and humble lady, and very grateful for what she had been provided. Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry and Teolina Solsaa; her husband, Arthur Johnson on January 20, 1982; three daughters, in infancy; four brothers and their spouses: Odean (Athlene) Solsaa, Eldo (Mary Pauline) Solsaa, Harold Solsaa, and Stanley (Shirley) Solsaa; and a sister, Violet (Arthur) Keierleber. Adeline is survived by three children: Garhardt “Gary” (Edythe) Johnson, Gay (Spencer) Minear, and Ardis Rivera; six grandchildren: Kara (Robert) Reich, Coey (Amy) Minear, Alma Rivera, Ana Rivera, John (Ruslana) Rivera, and James Rivera; four great-grandchildren: Robby Reich, Hailey Reich, Marlaina Minear, and Geneva Minear; sisters-in-law: Beverly Solsaa and Jennie Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The memorial service honoring the life of Adeline Johnson will be conducted at 11:00 am (visitation 10:00 to 11:00 am), Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Grantsburg, with Pastor Jay Ticknor officiating. A fellowship luncheon will be held followed by interment of her urn in Wood River Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are her six grandchildren: Kara Reich, Coey Minear, Alma Rivera, Ana Rivera, John Rivera, and James Rivera.
